Course Features

Our department emphasizes the teaching philosophies of independent learning and learning by doing. Through reflection on theories and practical training, we cultivate professionals with appreciation for humanies, concern for society and international perspective, so that students can be competitive whether they choose to continue their studies or seek employment after graduation.

Counseling, industrial/organization, and clinical psychology in one department

The DCIOP provides courses in the three major concentrations: counseling, I/O, and clinical psychology, comprehensively covering the range of the mental health field. Students can explore greater horizons through diverse studies, and build specialized expertise with cross-concentration.

Competitive competencies in professional licensure, research, practice, and international perspectives

Courses of the DCIOP can prepare students to become middle school guidance teachers and school counselors. Annual Department conferences, practicums, international exchange activities, and practical projects are attached to special courses. In addition, the multi-national composition of the university’s student body enables students to build their practical capability for work while they study, and also fosters international perspectives and mindset. With such international and extensive extracurricular activities available to students, students are encouraged to gain a global perspective, take practice opportunities and build practical ability to put theory to work for cultivating multiple competences for their future employment.

Wealth of practice experiences among faculty

The Department’s faculty appointments specially emphasize their practical abilities, experience in the workplace and instruction-in-English capabilities. All full-time faculty in the Department hold doctoral degrees and have some years of practical experience. The Department also invites licensed professionals (such as clinical psychologists, counseling psychologists, psychiatrists, etc.) from hospitals, schools and related fields to support lecturing, research and co-supervise of students; this extensively enriches the depth, breadth, and extent of course contents.
